Today the senate passed Senate Bill S2248 giving immunity to the telecom companies and in effect protecting them from the nearly 40 lawsuits pending against them. The issue has yet to go before the house.
The Senate voted 67-31 in favor of the legislation, with all 49 Republicans and 18 Democrats casting a vote in favor of immunity. Democrats voting FOR immunity included: Bayh, Inouye, Johnson, Landrieu, McCaskill, Ben Nelson, Bill Nelson, Stabenow, Feinstein, KOHL, Pryor, Rockefeller, Salazar, Carper, Mikulski, Conrad, Webb, and Lincoln.
Senator H. Clinton was noticably missing for the vote and was the only senator not voting. Senator B. Obama voted against immunity for the telecoms. In the past both candidates have stated their position to be against immunity for the telecom companies. Hmmm....
