Bush Seeks Forced Provisional Voting in Ohio

Incredible! Bush wants the US DOJ to look into the GOP's proposed Ohio vote suppression scheme using HAVA, seeking forced provisional voting that suppresses legal voters.

After being shot down by the US Supreme Court on using the Help America Vote Act (HAVA) for the purpose of declaring eligible voters to be tentatively ineligible because of database mismatches - a purpose that the text of HAVA expressively forbids - Bush and the Republicans will not give up.

As the Milwaukee Branch of NAACP and the Milwaukee Teachers Education Association write in their amicus brief in the Van Hollen v. GAB Wisconsin case, provisional voting is inherently suppressive, and many provisional voters will not be able to come back the next day to corroborate their legal voting status, and leave the voting process with questions about whether their votes counted.

A provisional ballot is a second-class vote. The voter leaves the polling place not knowing whether his or her vote will count. He or she will only find out by calling a toll-free number or checking a website. If the answer is that the vote was not counted, the voter will be given a reason, but by then it will be too late to correct. That voter will have been directly and absolutely deprived of the right to vote without a meaningful remedy. (Link to brief filed by Milwaukee Branch of NAACP and the Milwaukee Teachers Education Association in Van Hollen v. GAB.)

This will not be a problem in Wisconsin, but the GOP is not giving up on stealing Ohio, again.

From RollCall:

President Bush is asking the Justice Department to look into whether 200,000 Buckeye State poll-goers must use provisional ballots on Election Day because their names do not match state databases.

White House spokesman Carlton Carroll confirmed Friday that the president will forward a letter to Attorney General Michael Mukasey from House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio), requesting that the Justice Department look into whether the state’s voter rolls comply with the Help America Vote Act.

In a letter dated on Friday, the House GOP leader wrote that with Election Day 'less than two weeks away, immediate action by the Department is not only warranted, but also crucial.'

Folks, we have a major political party, the Republicans, who will do almost anything to stay in power. It's time for mass civil disobedience, something, to disrupt this outlaw element in the American political body. This is not a Party that is deserving of any respect whatsoever in our democracy.

To Sorry Democrats...

So, you've got the famous New York Times editorial. Excellent, son! Now educate yourself, child. There was supposed to be OVERSIGHT over Freddy and Fannie...REPUBLICAN CONGRESSIONAL OVERSIGHT. Have you wondered why Bush isn't blaming everyone else for this? Has it occurred to you? Think, son...

Sorry Democrats, but Clinton caused the housing crisis

Bill Clinton and the Democrats started this housing crisis back in the late 90's by pressuring Freddie and Fannie to loosen credit requirements. My source is an article from a renowned liberal news paper, THE NEW YORK TIMES. The article is titled, "Fannie Mae Eases Credit To Aid Mortgage Lending" written by STEVEN A. HOLMES on September 30, 1999. You can read it at their website: http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9C0DE7DB153EF933A0575AC0A... In that article written in 1999 they warn of the possible "government rescue" that would be needed by such actions. But despite that, "Fannie Mae, the nation's biggest underwriter of home mortgages, has been under increasing pressure from the Clinton Administration to expand mortgage loans among low and moderate income people and felt pressure from stock holders to maintain its phenomenal growth in profits." In order to "spur banks to make more loans to people with less-than-stellar credit ratings." SO, IF CLINTON STARTED THIS MESS, HOW CAN YOU ATTRIBUTE THE IMPEDING DOWN TURN IN THE S&P TO THE REPUBLICANS??????? I'm sure you have long forgotten that the stock market has hit record highs during Bush's term. I'm not even a big fan of Bush at all, but your logic is rediculous. Look at the effects of the policies, not during who's presidential term it was when their effects made an impact on the economy. This horrible housing crisis was started by the democrats, and your boy, Bill Clinton, not Bush or the republicans. Educate yourself, please.

Follow the money and the

Follow the money and the truth shall prevail. I would like to see a full investigation following all the money to ALL the parties – and it has gone to both-. I could careless what party they are affiliated with. We as citizens need to have the individuals whom committed dereliction of their civic duty weeded out, prosecuted stripped of their financial gains and new individuals back in those offices that will work for the People not their own special interest. Unfortunately, that is highly unlikely that will happen, that’s why they do what they do. So get involved, call your representatives and demand something is done. See if we can change things.

Right-Wingers Blame The Little Guy For Economic Crisis

It seems the right-wingers conveniently forget the so called Conservative Party (aka Republicans) has been in charge of the treasury and economic policy for the last 30 years, except eight that Clinton served. This crisis did not start with Clinton. It started with Reagan. Reagan handed the treasury over to Trans-National Corporations. Remember "The Keating Five"? Shall I remind you that the bail out in the 80's was also do to Savings & Loans (aka Investment Banks) being too big to fail?. Shall I remind you that the start of Reagan-Nomics did not start under Clinton? The stealing of the treasury did not start with Clinton either. It started with Reagan. Trickle down economics does not work. Under Reagan for Profit-Corporations took their billion dollar tax cuts shipped their operations overseas returned better profits for their shareholders. You should really read Thom Hartman. This guy has been sounding the alarm on all this bull crap for years. Bottom line so called conservatives have been borrowing money up the you know what to give themselves the tax cuts and now we are paying for it. Conservatives spend just as much as Democrats, except Conservatives put it back in to their pockets and don't tell you that your children are going to pay for it sometime. Who did Greenspan serve? And what did he admit just this last week? Don't tell me Democrats caused this. I'll get back to that in a minute. Back to the stealing of the Treasury. Reagan had his own war also. Can you name that illusive never-ending war? Sound familiar? Most people have forgotten about it. Bush has his own never-ending war. They always catch the #2 guy never the #1 guy. The war on terror. right? Reagan had his own. The war on drugs. Who benefited? Multi-National corporations. Run by private contractors. Sound familiar. Google citibank or citigroup drugs and see what you get. Who stashes the billions of dollars for the drug lords? Who manages all that money we send to U.S propped-up right wing regimes like Calderon, from Mexico and Uribe from Colombia? Google Mexican Governor drugs connected to Citi. Lets see what comes up. Where do you think the 8 billion dollars that Bremer admits he "lost", in the War on Terror, went? Will the war on Terror ever end? No. As long as you have the combative techniques under Halliburton and Blackwater the war on terror will never end. Has the war on drugs ended? No. Has consumption gone down? No. But we send more and more money to giant banks in other countries, where the right wingers have propped up governments. "Conservatives" began stealing your money 30 years ago and now our debts are up. Which brings me back to the current bail out and economic crisis. Greenspan this week said he fucked up under Reagan and every other president since. When they say deregulated doesn't only mean they were forced to give loans to Blacks and Mexicans (aka Risky Borrowers). They also mean regulated banks were deregulated to be able to take bigger risks on their money. In other words, they could now borrow, from China I might add, 50, 100, 150 dollars to 1 dollar of assets. Instead of the regulatory 15 to 1 dollars. Yes some "Risky" borrower defaulted. But that 300,000 dollar mortgage is now sliced and securitised for 30 million. In other words JPMorgan, Bear Sterns and yes Citigroup have collected cash worth trillions of dollars on over securitised mortgages and now they don't want to pay. Why? Beacause their CEO's and Share Holders, which are many people in these administrations that have ruled for the last 30 years, have taken the loot. Ahh! And the Bail-0ut you say? Well that is just and additional bonus from you and me "The Tax Payers". But I though you said "Conservatives" don't tax? My ass they don't tax. So really I ask is it the Blacks and Mexicans that created this global economic crisis or the so called "Conservative" governments that hold 90% of the worlds wealth? I say just look at the list of companies that benefited from the bail out. JP Morgan, Citibank, Bear Sterns and AIG to name a few. Now don't get me started on naming the personal representatives in these Corporations and these so called "Conservative" administrations.

Republicans and their blind followers

Liberty 11: Gee, who was it that rolled back all of those tax cuts? Also, I guess I don't recall a Democratic leadership lying to the American people about yellow cake in order to validate an illegal war with Iraq (costing the taxpayers billions in blood as well as treasury) how about allowing oil companies to make record profits in an era that has seen people going bankrupt trying to put gas into their cars; the list is endless-he must be completely clueless as to what is going on-or he is one of the mega rich individuals who is benefiting from corrupt Republican leadership!!!! Guess what pal, this is not a game where you pledge allegience to the home team-this is serious with our children's lives at stake!! Anyone who supports McCain and Pallen deserve to send their own kids to Iraq to get shot full of holes or lose their homes.

Liberty is just plain wrong

Actually, he is sorta right. Don't buy Obama's claims Bush deregulation caused the crisis. Buy Alan Greenspan's claims that reiterated that view. And don't forget that even if the Democrats opposed reforms of Freddie and Fannie, the GOP was in control of booth houses of congress and the White House and could easily have taken action on its own. And while we are making links to Fannie and Freddie, let's not forget McCain's campaign chief was their top lobbyist drawing $30,000 a month in fees, or the head of McCain's transition team, who has received about a quarter mill in fees from lobbying for Freddie. It has been demonstrably shown that the Community Reinvestment loans had next to nothing to do with the current crisis. The bad loans that caused the problem were not those types of loans. And the whole ACORN thing is little more than an effort to bail water from McCain's sinking ship by distracting voters. It pales in comparison to the true voter registration fraud conducted by McCain's pal Nathan Sproul, or the vote suppression efforts of the GOP. Face it Liberty, the right is wrong and the American people are seeing through your ideological BS this time.

Conservatives had their chance, they did not lead,

we will restore honor and dignity to the White House. Americans are angry at Conservatives, for denying global warming, for starting wars based on lies, for all their lies and trying to re-write history, for boring us to death with all this talk about a Republic while they are busily creating a bankrupt Empire with all their stupidity. One day we will make all Conservatives wear tattoos so we can ridicule them.

A supreme courts decision on voting rights

It was the supreme courts decision to stop, the recount in florida in 2000. that cost al gore the presidential election. which he actually won by 500,000 votes. fast forward to 2008; where pres. GWB wants to block over 200,000 voters from getting their votes counted. even though the ohio supreme court said ( the peoples votes must be allowed to count). which supreme court had the peoples best interest at heart.

who is Liberty11?

Is his real occupation a KoolAid salesman? Fact: the Repubbs have controlled congress from 1994 until 2006. To blame a president, either Clinton or Bush for everything done in congress is naive and that comment from 11 looks like GOP talking points strung together. To refuse to acknowkege that the GOP has been the right hand of big business is to refuse culpability. Think ENRON and their denial of even the close relationship they had with Ken Lay as a prime example. In retrospect, too many in congress sold their souls for benefits and big contributions, Very few have clean hands here. BUT FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, WAKE UP!
